The establishment of the World Accreditation Board for Business Education (WABBE) was driven by the needs of academic leaders who sought an accreditation process that emphasized mission-driven outcomes rather than rigid, input-based criteria. Initially, numerous four-year colleges in the United States offering business degrees faced challenges in gaining recognition from existing accrediting bodies. Similarly, many international institutions encountered obstacles in accrediting their business programs.
Since its foundation, WABBE has grown into a leading accreditation body that places a strong emphasis on excellence in teaching and learning. With a membership exceeding 200 institutions and accreditation of over 800 programs worldwide, WABBE has emerged as a key player in higher education accreditation. A pivotal moment in its history occurred in January 2011, when the Council for Higher Education Distance Learning Accreditation Association (CHEDLAA) officially recognized WABBE, further cementing its status in the academic community.
